Today we're going to be looking at one of the most charismatic people in the world, and that person is Craig Ferguson.
Craig Ferguson, at the beginning of each interview, would rip up the pre-interview questions, and basically ad-lib. So today we're going to look at what we can learn from him, and how you can bring this type of spontaneity to your own life.

1:53 - #1: Lower your filter.
2:05 - #2: Don't answer literally all the time.
2:28 - #2.5: Enjoy yourself and laugh.
2:47 - #3: Make your jokes complimentary.
3:13 - #4: Purposeful misinterpretation.
4:01 - #5: Don't rush your jokes.
5:33 - #6: Playfully self deprecate.
6:16 - #6.5: Be enthusiastic with your compliments.
6:35 - #7: The Rolodex method.

  • Thats great stuff for us extroverts to lean on in the perfect world we make up inside our heads but most people dont care about jokes of any kind and won't respond to them in a good way. I'm not simply speaking on my behalf, i haven't seen people be like that in ages, it's just not the social norm anymore and you might come across as someone that wants all the attention to yourself and people may think you are narcissistic and so on. It has become a shittay world

  • Does anyone understand what consciousness is? I don’t but I’ve experienced higher levels at times... if you could teach how to be higher in consciousness could be the richest person in the world. At higher levels of consciousness communication is perfect you understand exactly what the other person means when their communication is less than clear and everything is spontaneous

  • I happen to be on an Aaron Sorkin binge, and yesterday's movie was The American President (no plot spoilers) For the first few acts when the president was hitting on the .. lady, he would employ a lot of these strategies: he wouldn't reply seriously. He wouldn't reply literally. He would misinterpret what was asked of him. In fact, the character himself does this a lot with his staff members. Instead of coming across incompetent or like a 'frat boy boss' he comes across charming. And of course when he needs to, he will put on his serious mask and be serious. It's about having the right balance

  • Craig Ferguson is a comedic genius. But the fact is that no one can be him, or anyone else in these videos. The lists aren't even really useful either, because naturally emulating anyone's behavior is nearly impossible unless you're very similar personality-wise. Otherwise, it'll seem out of character and awkward, and you won't be able to sustain it. And that's assuming that you even have the quick wit and timing to pull it off, which few people have who haven't been a comedian or performer for decades.

  • I’ve been a huge fan of Craig Ferguson. His was the best late night since David Letterman. Those two and Johnny Carson were interviewing geniuses. I’m not panning other greats, but those three were exceptional in their own ways. Kudos for adding a summary and time stamps to the description. Many ITworlds creators will publish a video of, say, “ten basic safety tips for motorcyclists” and not share even a summary list, much less quick time stamps to refer back to them.

And being as grounded as he is now as an adult with a loving family and kids; that's what his confidence and relaxed attitude are based on. You don't learn it you earn it.

He will always be my favorite late night host. @joshrthompson was the best “sidekick” or “sidearm” 💀. He and Craig had the best riffs and improvs. Never giggled more than when those two were freestyling.
